LYDEARDLEA SULTAN OF SWING  (ARRAN)

In 1990, I rang Bill and Prue Welsh, Lydeardlea Border Collies, looking for a border collie bitch.  I knew absolutely nothing about the breeding behind any border collie lines, but I had seen 2 dogs in the Border Collie year book, and I wanted 1 or both, of these dogs to be in my dog's pedigree.  I spoke to Bill who told me he only had one male pup left, and that he would call to see me when he was passing my way with his job. arran

He came and saw my other 2 dogs and decided I may be suitable for one of his pups.  I went over to their house and after about and hour of questioning I was allowed to see the puppy, well of course any thought that I had wanted a bitch went straight out of the window when I saw Arran, he was perfect.  Lucky for me Bill and Prue agreed to let me have him.  That was nearly 20 years ago.  Sadly Bill died, but Prue and I have remained very good friends.

Arran was the most wonderful dog you could ever own.  I wanted to compete in obedience with him, but as both Bill and Prue showed their dogs I was talked into having a go at showing.  Well Arran started to win, so it was inevitable that I caught the 'bug' for showing.  Arran became a brilliant dual purpose dog.  He gained his stud book number in the breed ring and was placed at Crufts several times.  His obedience was also wonderful and he retired B&C having won a B and been placed in C.

arran1arran2I lost my beautiful boy on the 13th December, 2004 he was in his 15th year.  I still miss him every day.  I lost a very big piece of my heart when he left me.  I am lucky enough to have one of his daughters, one of his sons and one of his grand-daughters and hopefully soon one of his great grand children, so he isn't really gone.

LYDEARDLEA THE JAZZ SINGER AT SHAMOREL (JAZZ)

jaz1jaz pup

When Prue told me they were having another litter from Arran's mother I said yes please, can I have another pup!  Jazzie arrived in March 1993.  He was a very different character to Arran.  Probably the most laid back collie I have known.  I think he was a hippie from the 60s in a previous life. Nothing ever bothered him; he would just look at an aggressive dog, and seem to say 'what is your problem Man'.  This attitude made him a fantastic dog for me to use in my behaviour work with aggressive dogs because he didn't react to them.

Jazz enjoyed his showing and gained his stud book.  Obedience was a different kettle of fish.  He was brilliant, the best dog I have ever had for heelwork, but he only worked on his terms, so some days he would and some days he wouldn't.  He took to sheep work like a duck to water, and for a while he and I went to sheep dog trial training, but I was totally useless at it.

Sadly just after his 10th birthday, he was diagnosed with cancer, and he died in June 2003.  I have never had another collie quite like Jazz with that wonderful laid back attitude to life.  He loved everyone and every dog; he was a great ambassador for this wonderful breed. He passed on his happy attitude to his many pups.  I had a super litter in 1998 by him and my little Arran daughter, Tess.

RINGSLADE MOLLY MALONE AT SHAMOREL (TESS)

tess1

Tess came to me in 1996.  She was from Arran's first litter and I had her instead of a stud fee.  I always intended that she would be an obedience dog, but at 6 months old I decided to put her in the show ring, to get her used to the show atmosphere, as she was not ready for the obedience ring.  Her first breed show at 6 months and 1day she was Best Puppy in Breed and Res. Best Puppy in the (as it was then) Working Group, so I decided I would show her too.  She gained her stud book number and now at 13 years old, and retired from the obedience ring, wins veteran classes for a pastime, this has included Best Veteran in Show.  Her obedience career was a good one.  Bless her, she always tried her very best, all the time, and retired from obedience B and C.  She won a B just before she retired

In 1998 she produced a beautiful litter of 7 pups with Jazz as proud Dad.  See puppy/litter page for photos of the pups as they grew into superb dogs. I am still in touch with the 'pups' today.

ACULSIA ADDICTED TO SWING AT SHAMOREL (WILL)

will swimwill

Will arrived in June 2002.  He came from Arran's last litter.  He is a double for his Dad in looks but very definitely has his own personality which is great.  He is a brilliant obedience dog, but he is so keen that sometimes he gets a little OTT.  We are working together to keep things calm and the results are improving with each show.  He sired a lovely litter in 2004 and another in 2005, from this litter I, at last ,got my 'blue baby'. I had been waiting for a blue and white border collie for a number of years so I was delighted when Maddie was born a blue.

COCOBOLA SINGIN' THE BLUES FOR SHAMOREL (MADDIE)

My little blue girl Maddie came to live with her Dad in February 2006.  She is just the sweetest little girl  A real people dog, she loves everyone and when we are out for a walk, she will run up to complete strangers to say hello and if they ignore her she looks as me as if to say ' well what’s the matter with them.’?  She can't understand why everyone wouldn't want to speak to her too!

In the obedience ring she is coming right into her own, being placed almost every time she goes into the ring.  I am really excited with the obedience career I think she could have ahead of her.

I hope to have a litter from her at the end of 2009.  She will be mated to a black and white dual registered dog Threjays Cymro, who carries the dilute gene for blue, so I may be lucky to have not only black and white pups, but also blue and white and possibly black tri and blue tri. Details of mating and hopefully pups will be put onto my Puppy Page.

SHAMOREL SEMPER FIDELIS  (KADY)

Kady is the little girl I have kept from Maddie and Cymro's litter.

She is a rather unusual lilac and is just the sweetest little person.

Her training has begun with lots of fun and games. Her recall is very good and she has learnt sit and down and can follow treats as a start to her obedience heelwork. Kady is very outgoing and loves meeting new people and new dogs, she is also a very good caravan dog, she loves going away at weekends with her Mum and Grand dad.

I hope she will make an appearance in the breed ring in November when she is 6 months old and start some fun obedience rounds next year.'
